European Hive Convention and Open 2024

The first International Convention for Hive players is happening in Budapest, Hungary! 

The main event will be a one-day-long Open Swiss tournament on Saturday 8th June 2024, followed by seminars and workshops on Sunday 9th June 2024, in the morning. 

Several players will fly from all over Europe to play and John Yianni in person, the creator of Hive, will be there too! Despite the name, the event is not limited to European players, people all over the world are very welcome to join. 

You are free to participate in either of two or both days, just fill out the registration form below. The entrance fee for the Open on Saturday is £15 (ticket required), and the Convention on Sunday is free to anyone who wants to attend.

The venue is the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports Science and the event is co-organised by Gen42, the Magyar Hive Klub and Reflexshop.

Schedule

Friday 7th June: friendly dinner to meet the rest of the community. Optional for those who are in Budapest on Friday already. The time and place will be decided later on.

Saturday 8th June: European Hive Open (number of rounds and exact times can change depending on the number of participants) 

- Opening 9.30 

- Rounds 1-2 10.00-13.00 

- lunch break 13.00-14.30 

- Rounds 3-5 14.30-19.30 

- Dinner 20.00 

Sunday 9th June: European Hive Convention

- Seminars and Workshops 10.00-12.00.

  • Niels Robin-Aubertin (software developer and Hive player): The difficulties of creating a hive engine
  • Jon Iianu (main developer of Hivegame.com and juggler!): informal juggling workshop

- free play / blitz tournament / show the game to beginners: 12.00-14.00. 

- Final remarks, Closure and lunch from 14.00.

Changes to the schedule could be made to improve the quality of the event. The final schedule will be updated here and emailed to the participants a few days before the Convention starts.

The venue 

The venue is the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports Science (Magyar Testnevelési és Sporttudományi Egyetem), located in the centre of the Buda area of Budapest (Alkotás u. 42-48, 1123 Hungary). The University is within walking distance from Déli train station and accessible by Metro (M2) or bus/tram (n5) from Keleti train station. 


The Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is located less than 1 hour by taxi or bus (100E) from the city and it supports several low-cost airline flights.

If you want to visit the beautiful city of Budapest, the venue is also 10 minutes away from Buda Old Town, 5 minutes away from Gesztenyés Park and 20 minutes away from the Elizabeth Lookout! Find here a short list of places to visit with more info.

200 metres far from the venue there is a shopping mall (MOM Park) with a wide choice of restaurants and shops
